What happened
The laptop took a hit. The screen was damaged, but the impact didn’t stop at the glass: the aluminium lid bent at the corner. You can see it in the photo: with the laptop closed, there’s a gap between the lid and the bottom case that shouldn’t be there, and the edge is no longer straight.
That detail decided everything that followed. A cracked screen is obvious. A bent lid isn’t, but it matters just as much for how long the repair lasts.
Why we didn’t replace just the LCD panel
Replacing only the panel would have been cheaper upfront. We still recommended the complete assembly, because a new panel fitted into a bent lid isn’t a repair, it’s a problem postponed.
Uneven backlight
Behind the panel sit backlight layers that must lie perfectly flat. In a bent lid, the pressure is no longer even and brighter or darker areas appear, especially visible on dark backgrounds.
Coming loose over time
The panel is bonded to the lid. On a deformed surface, the adhesive doesn’t hold evenly, and over time, with heat and repeated opening, the panel can start to separate.
Imperfect closing
A bent lid no longer closes the same way. The gap at the corner lets dust in and puts pressure on the screen every time you close the laptop.
The complete assembly comes with a new lid, panel, hinges and cables, put together at the factory. In practice, the whole top half of the laptop becomes new, and the risks above go away along with the bent lid.
The part: new, genuine, sourced through an official channel
The display arrived in its original box, labelled „Complete LCD Display Assembly For MacBook Pro 14”, sealed in an antistatic bag. On the screen, a label with the part number and serial number. No refurbished parts, nothing pulled from another laptop.
Why does the source matter? There are displays on the market pulled from stolen laptops, which can stay locked to the previous owner. We wrote about it in our guide to „Locked to Owner” displays. A new part from an official channel doesn’t have that problem.
Overnight, not in 10-15 days
For a MacBook used for work, two weeks without it is a lot. Through Apple’s network, a repair like this usually takes 10-15 days. We can bring in the genuine part directly, through an official channel, so the laptop doesn’t sit waiting for an order.
The customer dropped it off one day and picked it up the next: new display, new lid, a screen that lights up like out of the box. Everything tested before handover.
Why it matters where you repair
If customers choose us, come back and recommend us, it’s because we put quality first: genuine parts, explaining why one option is better than another even when it costs more upfront, and repairs that last.
We’re not a repair shop that popped up overnight in an apartment block stairwell, claims 35 years of experience on its website and fits parts from AliExpress. If you want to know how to tell the difference, we wrote a whole guide: how to choose a trustworthy Apple repair shop in Bucharest.
