What it is: Display from independent Chinese suppliers (TFT, INCELL or medium quality OLED). Inferior quality to original: slightly different colors, reduced brightness (700-1200 nits vs 2000 nits original), ProMotion limited to 60Hz, no True Tone, no Face ID if original flex not transferred.
For whom: iPhone 17 3+ years old without AppleCare+, users wanting minimum price, device for quick resale. NOT recommended for users wanting original experience.
Detectable in Apple Settings: Permanently marked „Unknown Part" in Settings. ProMotion 120Hz disabled. Face ID may need recalibration.
Display OEM Premium
What it is: Display manufactured by same company that manufactures for Apple (Samsung Display, BOE) on OEM line, without official Apple Service Pack pairing. Specs identical to original: 2000 nits HDR, ProMotion 120Hz, True Tone, LTPO OLED panel. Difference: lack of True Tone factory calibration programming.
For whom: Best quality-price ratio for post-Apple-warranty iPhone 17. Visual quality indistinguishable from original for average user.
Detectable in Apple Settings: Still „Unknown Part" in Settings (no Apple pairing) but identical visual performance. ProMotion 120Hz works normally.
Display Service Pack (Apple Genuine)
What it is: Original Apple display purchased through AASP channel. 100% identical to factory — comes with new serial, official Apple pairing via AST 2 (Apple Service Toolkit 2).
For whom: iPhone 17 still under Apple warranty (warranty preservation), users wanting 100% original experience + Face ID/True Tone functional without any modification.
Detectable in Apple Settings: Shows „Genuine Apple Part" in Settings → Parts and Service History. Completely transparent in Apple Repair Assistant.
