The iPhone screen uses an OLED panel (on iPhone 12 and newer) or LCD (on older models), laminated with Ceramic Shield or Ion-X glass. Although Apple improves resistance with each generation, a fall onto a hard surface (concrete, tile, asphalt) at the wrong angle can crack both the glass and the panel beneath it.

What to do immediately after your screen cracks: don't press on the shards — risk of cuts and additional panel damage. If the screen still works, make a precautionary iCloud or iTunes backup. Apply a temporary screen protector (or transparent tape) to prevent shards from coming loose and dust from getting in. Then bring the iPhone to a repair shop as soon as possible — a cracked screen without protection lets in moisture which can affect internal components.

Aftermarket vs original screen: there are aftermarket (generic) displays on the market at low prices. They have washed-out colours, reduced brightness, less precise touch, and don\'t support True Tone or colour calibration. At Radical Service we don't use aftermarket displays — we use exclusively original Apple screens (refurbished or new Service Pack), which preserve OLED/LCD quality, colours, brightness and all features: Face ID, True Tone, Haptic Touch.

Face ID is tied to a unique module, paired with the iPhone's logic board. When replacing the screen, we transfer this module from the old display to the new one, ensuring full Face ID functionality. If the original module is damaged (severe fall), we diagnose the situation and inform you before the repair.

True Tone automatically adjusts the screen's colour temperature based on ambient light. Functionality depends on a light sensor and software calibration between display and logic board. At Radical Service we calibrate True Tone at every installation using professional equipment — the new screen behaves identically to the original.

Water resistance: iPhones from the factory have sealing strips between display and frame. When replacing the screen, we re-apply the sealing strip, providing a good level of protection. However, IP68 resistance cannot be guaranteed at factory parameters after any intervention — this is a limitation of any service, not just ours. We recommend avoiding water exposure for 24 hours after the repair, so the adhesive can fully cure.
